LG sways Barcelona through its 3D Optimus Smartphone

Just when we thought that tablets are the buzzing word at the Ongoing Mobile World Congress at Barcelona, South Korean electronics giant LG has ripped apart the competition by unveiling its new glassless 3D Smartphone equipped with 3-D Camera.

The smartphone powered by Google’s Android 2.2 Froyo boasts of a 4.3 inch screen and houses 1-GHz Dual-Core processor with 8GB storage space. In terms of picture quality, the camera is capable of recording 1080 high-definition video in normal 2D and 720p in 3D and can be plugged to your HDTV through HDMI cable.

The company announced that the phone will be on sale in the Q2 2011 in Europe, however the release date for US is still not announced.

HTC mesmerizes Barcelona with its Flyer tablet

It was a congregation of mobile players at the ongoing Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (14-17 Feb 2011) and while many companies showcased their new products, it was Taiwanese smart phone maker HTC which is the latest one to join the Android Bandwagon with its iPad clone — HTC Flyer tablet computer with dedicated Facebook buttons, specifically targeting growing Facebook users worldwide.

Speaking at the event, HTC Chief Executive Peter Chou stated that “2010 was an amazing year for HTC and smartphone users” and added, “HTC brings social networking to phones in a new way”. He also stated that with the new phones, ChaCha and Salsa, users could directly take photos from their phones and upload broadcast in their Facebook account with just touch of a button. The company has had a stupendous year in 2010 with sales of over 25 million handsets and is poised to increase by banking on the Google Android OS. Mr. Chou was optimistic that the sales of low-end mobile phones will outsmart its rivals, “The popularity of smartphones is exploding,” at the event.

TouchPad: HP launches rival to iPad

In a major boost to its quest for an alternative to Apple’s iPad and also finding its own niche amongst a barrage of tablet PCs, touted as the future of personal computers, HP has unveiled its much awaited tablet PC, the TouchPad.

This new kid of the slate block has a breakthrough webOS user interface, and is said to be the first webOS slate. According to the company’s official website, TouchPad has a vibrant 9.7-inch diagonal flush capacitive multitouch display, virtual keyboard, instant-on access, support for Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1 beta in the browser and access to thousands of webOS applications. The PC giant claims that the TouchPad works the way you do and is designed not just for fun but for mobile productivity. ‘It’s ideal for anyone who wants the benefits of the amazing webOS platform on a much bigger scale.’

The breakthrough interface of TouchPad features a spacious workspace and activity cards that provide an easy way to visualize and organize what you’re working on. Easily move back and forth between cards and group related cards in stacks—or have them stacked automatically. What's more the TouchPad can be charged wirelessly by just placing the gadget on the charging console.

Further, TouchPad’s virtual full QWERTY keyboard includes a number row, which reduces keyboard switching, making typing easy and fast. It powers on instantly and brings you back to exactly where you left off, whether you were in the middle of composing an email, playing a game or browsing a web page.
