New details have emerged on Dell’s upcoming Mobile Internet Device, the Streak. This will be a small portable computer with a variety of wireless access options and a focus on accessing the Web and e-mail.Little was known about Dell’s 5-inch MID, that was until a video of the device popped up last month. There are now rumors that the mobile Internet device will be released by AT&T in 2010 and will run on the Google Android 2.0 OS, this is what Engadget learned from DigiTimes.
It will sport Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and the ability to connect to 3G networks. In addition, it will function as a GSM phone.Android 2.0 will be its operating system, and it will come with the standard suite of applications, many of which tie in to Google’s online services, like Gmail. In addition, the Streak will have a 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and a 1,300 mAh battery.
According to a recent review over at Slash Gear, the Dell Streak does not have much hardware showing on the outside however; there are three touch-sensitive buttons on the right-hand side of the device.
At this point, it’s probably too early to say when the Dell Streak will be released, or what it will cost. Still, an unconfirmed report that came out this summer said this model could debut this fall, possibly through a wireless carrier.
There have been rumors that this company is prepping devices for AT&T, but Dell could also be planning on selling this model directly to the public unlocked.
Mini 5 is real, but up until now, we’ve had to provide all of our own promotional material. At long last, it seems as if the suits in Round Rock are finally getting around to crafting the first advertisements for the upcoming slate. plans to reveal a slew of vivacious color options. If this here flyer proves legitimate, we could eventually see the Mini 5 available in an array of premium finishes and hues, and we’re hoping for a few different spec builds as well.
We just landed a few more official slides from an internal Dell document, and it’s safe to say that the company is going to call this beauty the Streak. Or, at least that’s the internal codename. Better still, it looks as if it’ll launch with an Amazon content partnership, which will bring a Kindle e-book reader app, Amazon MP3, Amazon video streams and pretty much any other material that Amazon sells in digital form right to the slate.
